History of the Brian Whitehead Sports Centre Association (BWSCA)

40 Years Of Sporting activities...
In 1982 Longford Estate sold the land at Wick Lane to Downton Parish Council for the use of leisure and recreation. Following a bequest from the family of Dr Brian Whitehead the BWSCA Ltd was formed and the Clubhouse built to provide a facility for the local community.
The Sherwood Room was built in 1992 from funds bequeathed to the clubs from Mr Albert Sherwood who played for both the football and bowls clubs. This function room provides an excellent venue for parties, weddings and a host of other events.
The Leisure Centre was also completed in 1992 and is a fantastic facility, comprising a gym, large sports hall, 2 indoor tennis courts, a spinning room, tanning room and meeting area. Under new management the centre has been refurbished and offers something for everyone.
